Dragon, Princess and Knight archetypical, Waldorf inspired fairy tale figures for imaginative play and for Michaelmas roleplay
Michaelmas is the holiday of St. Michael, the archangel on 29th September. The holiday is near the autumn equinox, at a time when days become noticeably shorter and people are preparing for the cold months coming. It is also the time to find our inner light and courage to face challenges and stand out for what is right. It is typically the first holiday in a Waldorf school year.
The set includes:
Dragon: Christian tradition considers dragons evil, fearful and malevolent mythical creatures, although they had been considered benevolent in pre-Christian era. Dragons in the East symbolize power, strength and glory.
Princess: Princesses are central figures in many fairy tales. A princess carries the hope of becoming a queen. Her fate is to become representative of power and authority and also of spiritual enlightenment, symbolized by the crown.
Knight: A knight is a brave warrior fighting evil forces to save others. St. Michael, the patron saint of knighthood, hurled down headlong the Devil himself. Knights were often compared to God’s angels fighting for a better world, and being knighted was considered a sacrament similar to baptism.
